Bonehead Sharks - Family Sphyrnidae

The bonehead shark is of the Hammerhead family. It has a broadly widened head in the shape of a shovel and only a slight indentation of anal fin. The front of the head not notched at midline.

The Bonehead is gray or grayish-brown in color. Similar Fish are other hammerhead sharks. It is generally found inshore in bays and estuaries.

Boneheards are typically 3 to 4 feet in length.

Incidental Intelligence: The bonehead matures at about 3 feet in length, has 6 to 12 young at one time and feeds chiefly on crabs and other crustaceans.
