Love of the Water
Almost the first and certainly the fondest memories I have are of Going Fishing with my Grandfather and my father. These were among the great formative experiences of my life - the love, the affection the lavished on us, talking to us, teaching us, taking part in the great pleasures of being on the water and the
for the denizens that live below.
There is nothing like fishing. It teaches you to seek and bring back food, the value of knowledge, the importance of struggle, the necessity of patience, the omnipotence of luck, the beauty of nature, the danger of the storm, the fickleness of fate and the crucial role of the Gods in all our endeavors. Most of all, fishing teaches us to be at peace with ourselves and what we do for their is no other sport where man is so dependent on the forces of ability and fate.
To be truly at peace a man should do one, or preferable two things. The first is fish, the second is to have a garden. Both are about as close to heaven as a man can be.
